Do It Right

"Do It Right" is Valentina Black's single released on February 3, 2024 — a collaboration with Jon-John Robinson, a two-time Grammy-winning producer whose credits span artists including TLC and Diana Ross. Robinson co-produced and arranged the track, and also handled synthesizer, guitar, keyboards and bass, alongside mixing and mastering.

The track is built around a direct, hook-driven chorus — "Baby you do it right, keep on baby, morning and night" — repeated and layered across the song's verses, giving it the kind of instantly-memorable pop chorus built for radio and playlists alike.

Behind the Credits

The pairing with Jon-John Robinson connects "Do It Right" to a wider lineage of pop production — Robinson is also credited as a co-writer on Valentina's single "Angel," making this the second collaboration between the two documented in official songwriting registries (BMI).

"Do It Right" came from an archive Valentina has been building for years on her own — well over four terabytes of music she has written and composed entirely by herself, much of it born inside a garage she converted into her own recording studio. It's a private space she calls her sacred temple, one she keeps closed to everyone else. It was from there that she chose to bring this particular song out into the world, picking Jon-John Robinson as producer because his sound and artistic sensibility matched exactly what she was looking for.

Like many of the songs written in that solitude, she doesn't clearly remember the moment this one arrived. As Valentina puts it, time is a pure illusion for the spirit — true only in part, in the form the body and matter take — and connecting with that divine source, she says, is the real wealth a human being can search for.
